Never Too Old: 78-Year-Old Starts First Grade in Bulgaria

78-year-old Apostol Stoyanov has been a laborer all his life. He never had the opportunity to get an education when he was young due to the cost and distance from his home. Though he never learned to read or write, he says his greatest dream is to be literate. He says he ‘s ready for a life in the classroom.

First graders at one Bulgarian school will have a much older classmate this year. Stoyanov will be doing most of his studying at home, but will attend class to turn in homework, take tests, and answer questions like any other first grader. His biggest fear, he says, is math, but he plans to seek extra help from his teachers.

I was driving back up to university from home. For the most part, it’s a pretty boring drive. There’s one part towards the end though, where there’s a clearing in the forest right next to the road. It’s always so beautiful, I have to look every time I pass it. Today, I pulled over and just ran around and laid in the grass for a few minutes. Having a pit of fun before getting back up to school MMD!

Five-year-old Jesse Rauscher got to ride in a firetruck to his first day of kindergarten. After the journey, he thanked fireman Bill Guile with a big hug.

I work as a janitor at a school. A teacher on a hall I don't work on came up to me and say" I don't know your name but I have a box of books Im getting rid of. Go see if there is anything you want." The fact the teacher didn't know my name but knew I was a bookworm IMMD. The free books was a plus too! :D

California School Superintendent Takes $800,000 Pay Cut Over Next Three Years

Fresno County, Calif. School Superintendent Larry Powell gave himself a sizable pay cut for the remainder of his term: From $250,000 per year, down to $31,020. The move will add $830,000 over the next three years to the school budget, which will be put into a reserve fund and used to save important school programs if mid-year budget cuts occur.

“My wife and I are very well compensated. We’ve been very blessed… I’ve been in this business for 41 and a half years and these are tight budget times in California for public schools,” Powell said. “My wife and I thought, what can we do that might help change the dynamic in my particular area.”

This morning, I took an early train to school for a presentation/exam. As I was leaving the station, I realized I had left my laptop on the train. I ran to find an agent who was able to quickly call the next station.
I could provide the exact location, so an agent from the railways was able to retrieve it! I just took the next train to go get my computer…
I lost 45 minutes, instead of $1000, and nailed the exam. IMMD!
