Volunteers build fenced park for Davis shelter animals
About 40 volunteers gathered on Saturday to build a park for the Davis County Animal Shelter’s dogs and cats. The volunteers were from the Building Owners and Managers Association’s (BOMA) Helping hands organization which has been providing volunteer work for community projects for the past several years. Helping Hands Chairman Rick Larsen discovered the shelter’s need for a play space after being fined for not having his dog licensed.
“Fifteen minutes in a dog play group is the equivalent to walking the dogs for about two hours,” Larsen said.
Larsen and Davis County Animal Shelter hope the park will improve the shelter’s image, and help increase adoptions by providing a space for potential adopters to play with the animals. Larsen says the park will be 5,000 square feet of fenced in landscaped area, with a separate pen for cats. BOMA is also donating 400 pounds of dog food to the shelter.
“We’re not skimping on anything,” Larsen said.
