The Clinton Humane Society unveiled new technology that allows people to interact with shelter cats over the internet. The Humane Society’s website contains a live video stream of their play room. With a control pad on the page, users can move several robotic toys located in the room for the kittens to play with. Ed O’Neill, a board member at Clinton Humane Society says it puts the cats in a more neutral setting which allows them to show off their personalities.
Clinton was one of the first shelters chosen by Idaho company Apriori to initially adopt the system. They are now one of only five shelters in the world with the technology. The cats get to socialize and exercise, and the system allows people all over the world to get to know, and hopefully, fall in love with the shelter’s animals.
It has also been beneficial for people who can’t play with kittens every day. “People in nursing homes who can no longer have pets can come to this site and play with these kittens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year,” O’Neill said.
