One day my mum and my younger brother were fooling around in the kitchen throwing a bit of water after eachother. Suddenly my mum got very serious and said they had to stop because the bowl my brother was holding was very expensive. My brother stopped and handed her the bowl while apologizing. My mother quickly emptied the bowl over his head and walked away laughing loudly. IMMD.

Dunno about “disturbed”, but this is indeed the kind of stuff that can have a large influence on how a child turns out. If the child accepts it as just playing around: danger averted. But if the child feels betrayed, he might learn the message of “never trust anyone, including your family” or “being cruel to others for your own amusement is perfectly fine”. Especially if this kind of prank is repeated a few times in different situations.
My parents never lied to me, and I like to think that I turned out all right (if a bit boring). My kids are getting the same treatment. =)

He usually deserves it, when my mother plays a prank on him – mostly because he constantly mocks her about her age
We are a family, who likes to play pranks on each other, and he will get back at her – nothing alarming about it – just a family who can have fun with each other
