That’s neat! It happened to me when I was forty… I just stood there and laughed as I handed over my card and the man said, “You’re older than ME!”

  3. marc says:

Depending on where you live, some places ask for ID from EVERYONE, no matter how young/old they look.. I heard people feel flattered about being asked for their ID, and then having their bubble popped when the grandpa behind them got carded too.. ;p

I’m guessing you live in America. It annoyed me having to take my passport out when I went drinking over there even though I’m 35.

  5. Chrissy says:

It’s a new law in Indiana that everyone buying carry-out liquor gets carded, no matter the age.

A lot of places have to ID everyone, either it’s just policy or they actually have to input info to make the sale. One of my friends got IDed once and was so flattered that she started thanking the cashier. Poor guy had to tell her that everyone was required to show ID just to shut her up.

Yeah, I worked a festival one year where we ID’d everyone buying alcohol. The older people were flattered and the younger ones were pissed off that they were being ID’d.

I i.d.’ed a 30 year old once. She really did look my age! I was sure she was 22, tops.

I get that too. I was 31 years old before I ever managed to buy alcohol; still got carded but it’s the only time it’s been accepted. I hadn’t tried that often since I don’t drink but it was still annoying. A liquor store once refused to serve my husband because the cashier assumed my ID was fake. I went out with friends and got kicked out of the bar because I didn’t have any ID with me; I thought we were just going bowling and didn’t realize there was a bar there too. I even got carded once because I was trying to sit in the bar area of a restaurant in the UK; I was 25 and the guy didn’t believe I was over 16.

In Oregon if you even look 30 or below they are supposed to card you. Mabye your area has a similar law. Regardless that’s 20 freaking years or more you’re lucky.

  9. deagh says:

Good for you! I got ID’d once when I was 35…at first I assumed they were carding everyone, but my I was the only one at the table who got carded…and I was the oldest one in the group! I was thrilled – they were annoyed.
