This weekend a 75 year old cancer patient came into my ER. She had let her grandson cut her hair into a mohawk before it all fell out. IMMD.

Aww! I would so do that. You might as well have fun with it while you have it. lol
Agreed.
very true. as well as donate the cut off hair to the Locks of Love program……
Knowing what I know now, I’ll never give my hair to Locks of Love again. They don’t donate it to children, they SELL it to them.
No, they sell the extra stuff so they can afford to give it to kids.
Not true. They sell it to fund their programs IF it’s not usable for their wigs (too short, usually).
They do, however, tend to give their wigs to kids with alopecia rather than cancer, which apparently pisses people off for some reason. Not sure why, considering cancer kids’ hair will grow back; the kids with alopecia’s won’t.
Alopecia doesn’t always mean permanant hairloss, sometimes it grows back.
Must chime in. Locks of Love does mostly give to kids with alopecia, and they say so up front on their website. They give free wigs, and also sell on a sliding scale according to financial need. Anyone who wants to be involved with them (or not) should certainly check them out. All I’d ask is that you make an INFORMED decision either way. Get the facts before you judge. Personally, I think they are dancing with the saints.

hey, I did give mine. I was about to go thru Chemo for breast cancer. and instead of letting the floor have mine. at least I gave it to someone who could use it better than my floor could.
by the way. i’ve been in remission since aug 30, 06.
Sangelia I’m so happy you’re doing well. May you continue to be well.
O wow! I did the same thing. I had long dark hair, so before it fell out i dyed it platinum blonde, then neon red…then did the mohawk. Finally when it was all gone I put a gold earring in one ear and was Mr. Clean for Halloween.
It was difficult, but it’s good to know that others appreciate our attempts to make light of the struggle.
^
:*(
If I could reach you, I would hug you.
One of my friends had a little brother with cancer. On Halloween, what turned out to be just a month or two before he died, he dressed up as Aang from Avatar: The Last Airbender. He was an awesome kid.
I think humor, messing with your hair, and generally trying to keep things light is a great way to deal with crap in general. Kudos to you!
Aw, damn, that’s sad – must have been a truly awesome kid. Did he paint the arrow on his head and everything? XD
…god I hope you won a costume content with that one. stroke of genius.
I appreciate people that keep grace under pressure.
Rock on!
…kick ASS. Should I ever be in that position, I hope to be that awesome. (Actually, I have butt-length hair so I’d probably cut it off and donate it before I started losing it, but there’s no reason I couldn’t do SOMETHING cool with what would be left…)
