I was caught in the rain waiting to cross the street. A man walked up beside me and held his umbrella over my head while we waited to cross. IMMD.

AW! Chivalry is not dead. :)

  2. kat says:

    Yay for kind strangers! :)

  3. MLD says:

OMG, who (aside from a misogynist or uber-liberal feminist) would vote this DOWN???

  4. Megalodon says:

Hooray for common decency! I try to do the same, especially since I always seem to be the one with the umbrella on hand. I like this one! It’s a notch above the people who hold the doors for you, and it’s so refreshing!

  5. Imp says:

Aw, this makes my day just thinking about it! That man is the definition of win.

  6. Sebasss says:

Sometimes people dont like old fashioned things like this. Yesterday let a girl pass before me in the bus and she looked at she said “Meh, its the same”.

Some girls dont like gentlemen (?)

    • moocow says:

No, we like gentlemen. It’s just that we’ve become so accustomed to NOT having any gentlemanly actions. I’m always surprised to have a guy hold the door open for me – i think it’s nice.

Then again, some girls can be REALLY unappreciative.

      • markc86 says:

One factor seems to be that sometimes (attractive?) girls are used to being treated nicely and have something of a “princess complex”, if you want to call it that.

    • EHM says:

Women who have a chip on their shoulder don’t like gentlemen, the rest of us do.

For some reason society is trying to get us to think that men holding a door open for a lady or letting her go first is a bad thing. I don’t get it.

And it’s nice to come across a story like this.

We need to hear more of these.

  7. ??? says:

I don’t know, I think feminists would think, ” Damn’t you better put that umbrella over my head.

  8. Hope restored says:

This website always gives me hope for humanity when I need it! Yay for random acts of kindness!

  9. Multi-Facets says:

Little gestures from strangers can mean so much. I did something similar for another gal last year, and the smile she gave me was so heartwarming. ^n_n^

  10. Bob says:

I did this the other day, then they turned and left… wonder if it was the same person…

  11. Leafdancer says:

I do this, and I’m a woman. I did this once for a woman with her five-year-old daughter while waiting for the cross-walk light. The woman seemed a little weirded out, but the little girl gave me this big grin.

  12. Teal says:

    i love good deeds!

  13. Kelsie says:

    Anyone else think of Totoro?

  14. Reanna says:

That happened to me yesterday! Except I just so happened to be going to the same place as her, so she let me walk with her & we shared!
