While working on a group answer to the question “When do you know you are ready to have sex?” in my grade 12 Sex Ed class, one naive (and not too bright) student seriously replied, “When you’re on top.” After the initial laughter of his classmates died down, a girl asked him if he was a virgin. "No," he sincerely replied, “I’m a Canadian.” IMMD.

& Guys. It’s not just a term for girls. Guys can be virgins as well.
That’s one meaning, though the one used commonly (and is the #1 entry in the dictionary) is a PERSON who hasn’t had intercourse. Another is an “unmarried girl or woman.” So I’m still a virgin if you take that literally, even though I live with my boyfriend. A virgin in the animal kingdom is, yes, a female that hasn’t had sex. Didn’t know there was so many layers of meaning!
