BWDC

On a rainy October morning in DC, I missed my bus stop. The driver doubled back through several blocks of downtown DC and dropped me at my building, because “you smile and you always say good morning.”

  12. beatrijs says:

    Polite people ftw (:

  13. boaks says:

aww, polite Metrobus drivers are hard to come by. I’m used to seeing them shove their way into traffic, and when I saw one actually waiting to be let into the line of traffic, I let him in and he waved at me to say thanks. It’s nice to know not all Metrobus drivers are jerks who use their enormous vehicles to push smaller vehicles around :-)

    • jiggypop says:

If bus and truck drivers waited for 4 wheeler’s to let them in all the time they would die of starvation before reaching their destination.

  14. Thomas says:

I would give this a thumbs up, but the thumbs up count is 1337, so I’ll just leave it at that.

  15. Vinnie says:

Who are the miserable people who gave this a thumbs down?

  16. Dribble says:

Wow, a DC Metro driver that’s actually nice! Nice story.

  17. Tikal says:

So it DOES pay to be nice! Sweet.

This is the kind of post that is read daily on givesmehope. Not to be an advertiser, but if you like this kind of thing, go ahead and check it out.

  22. Alpha says:

I don’t think the driver backtracked several blocks, I think it was several buildings.
Regardless, it was still nice of the driver to do this.

  23. AbdulAziz says:

This one made me smile for sure :)
    High Five!

  24. genuine says:

My first day of school i got on the wrong school bus after class and ended up on the entire wrong side of town. The bus driver drove me all the home.

  25. mjg says:

I work for a city bus agency and we have a few (very few) drivers that would do something this nice. Most agencies would reprimand a driver for going off-route, too, which makes it doubly amazing. This post made my day!

  26. Miss Mad says:

    Pays to be friendly ^^

  27. Ro says:

AND THEN HE DROVE OFF AGAIN JUST TO BE A DOUCHE.

  28. B says:

But you are apparently very rude to all the other bus passangers to let him do that rather than just walking a few blocks back.

    • The Other Side says:

you, sir (or mam) are the epitome of my tag…..and I thank you :)

    • Helen Skor says:

While I am sure that you really appreciated the driver’s kind gesture, I also have to wonder about the other people on the bus who had places that they needed to be (on time) or who were just tired after a long day and wanted to get home and relax. Traffic in the District sucks pretty much all the time, but especially in rush hour, and I imagine that a detour of even just a few blocks probably added a good 10-15 minutes to everyone else’s commute.

  29. Celebren says:

“you smile and you always say good morning…unlike all the other douches behind me.”

    *uncomfortable silence in the bus*

  30. a bear says:

I don’t know if it’s the beer, but I have tears in my eyes.

  31. virika says:

As a daily rider of DC Metro busses in the downtown area, I can say if that was a bus I was on or waiting for, I would be effing pissed. I was 20 minutes late to work today because my bus showed up 40 minutes late, ven WITH the new GPS “next bus” system. GRRR.

  32. wavedancer says:

Undisputed “awwwwww!” of the day! Just goes to show what a smile and a kind word can do.
