My wife took my 3 year old to church for the first time. Getting impatient while waiting for the mass to start, he turned to the wife and asked, “What time does Jesus get here?” IMMD

    • bezboznik says:

I’m ready. I made a cross just for him and when he shows up I’m going to nail that bastard to it, again. Yeah! geezuz can show up a thousand times and it’s going to end the exact same way it did the first time: impaled on a stick and beaten to death.

Can I have an AMEN, brothahs n sistahs!

Omg, that poor devil has to go to church? Don’t do that, please, let him think for himself!

    • PensFan says:

      Dude, you’re a tool.

    • DrPluton says:

Most Christian families bring their children to church with them. Mine did, and I decided that being a Lutheran is for me. If the kid doesn’t have exposure to church as a child, he won’t really have any basis on which to make the decision as an adult.

      • Lurker says:

I’m pretty sure that once you mature a little then you can actually research religions yourself and come to your own conclusions as to which (if any) you decide to choose.

So for you to say that people won’t have ANY basis on which to make decisions as an adult is not very genuine.

I didn’t know I liked IMMD until I came to this site (as an adult) and yet I was not exposed to it as a child… funny, that.

        • Meta says:

The experience and what you can read in a book are entirely different.

And I would say a website and a religion are a bit different.

          • walkingtalking says:

Hey! Research doesn’t have to be from a book, it can be from experience as well. Adults have ways to walk in to religious institutions too, you know. They don’t have to be dragged into one as a kid!

If you experience many different religious institutions, instead of just the one you were forced to go to as as child, it seems like you’d be able to make a more informed decision.

Or do you think children should be brainwashed with a religion at an age when they believe reindeer can fly?

      • Kelly says:

So, by your own logic, children of Christian parents should also be taken to Mosques and Temples so they have a real-life understanding of these religions and can make an educated decision when they’re older, right? Yeah, I don’t think so.

    • hnm says:

Uh, I dunno about other Christian sects, but at least when Catholics get married, they have to swear a vow before God to raise their children in the Church (otherwise they’re not permitted to marry in the church). In other words, it’s an actual, you’re-going-to-hell mortal sin to not bring your children to church once they’re old enough to understand. The parent is considered responsible for the child’s soul until his or her majority.

Even if you’re not religious, maybe you should consider respecting other people’s cultural requirements.

(P.S. The “think for yourself” portion of the brain doesn’t even develop until about age 7, so the kid couldn’t think for himself if he wanted to, anyway.)

      • CypressRun says:

WTF? Do you know any children who are actually smarter than a damn rock? That “can’t think for themselves” is a load a flaming offal. Children under 7 are NOT stupid. They are mentally hamstrung by completely ignorant bullshit like this. Children who are taught to think critically will do.

      • justsomedude says:

“The “think for yourself” portion of the brain doesn’t even develop until about age 7, so the kid couldn’t think for himself if he wanted to, anyway.”

This is exactly why children should not under any circumstances be introduced to a church environment until they’ve reached an age at which they’ve acquired critical thinking skills. They should have a basic understanding of all of mankind’s major religions through history, so that they may make an informed decision.

        • hnm says:

Except that if you truly believe in a particular God, it makes complete sense to want to raise your children to believe in that God too because faithful people believe it to be beneficial to them. Especially if it’s an ironclad canon law. Belonging to a church is also part of belonging to a community, and naturally a parent would want to bring up their child in the community to which they belong. Being part of a group is an incredibly powerful human need. A church is just a built-in guarantee of that.

          • Alpha says:

I just want to add: in case you disagree with my above comment in anyway, I just want to let you know that my comment has to be interpreted. What I said is correct, if you think it isn’t, you just misunderstood.

          • The Other Side says:

Sorry…you lost me when you have the words “God” and sense on the same line. :)

      • I’ll find it a lot easier to respect other people’s cultural requirements when the priests of those cultures stop raping children.

  9. Anonymous says:

Exposing a child to religion should be a federal crime punishable by death.

Draconian, but the only way to make the madness stop.

  10. Yudo Nomi says:

No one under 18 should be permitted in church. If we don’t trust minors to make other decisions in their best interest (voting, military service, etc) then why would we assume they were capable of making an informed decision about God?

    • Let me get this straight:

Laws in this country forbid minors from entering into legally binding contracts. A person must be at least 18 years old before borrowing from a financial institution. But we’ll allow a religion to obligate an 8 year old to an agreement regarding their supposedly immortal soul.

I wonder if Christian parents would let their child enter into any other contracts at a young age? I’m going to ask my bank if they offer autoloans for embryos!

  11. Julie says:

I went to church with my parents as a kid and during one particularly fire-and-brimstone sermon (really unusual for that particular church) I turned to my mother and asked “Why is Jesus yelling at us?”.

  12. PensFan says:

I’ll say it again, to more of you this time – You’re a tool.

Seriously, if my kids want to change religions when they’re older, I think that’s fair. If I want to expose my child to my religion when he or she is younger, number one it’s none of your business, idiot who would want me killed, and number two I believe it can be a great experience for them. My grandma used to take me when I was younger and I loved going, and I’m very glad to have those memories, which absolutely started before I was able to make an informed decision about it.

Maybe this is just because I’m not a fan of the liberals, but I feel like those who don’t want me to be allowed to take my child to church are the same groups who want gay marriage. Like, stay out my business but I’m going to poke my nose in yours cuz I’m liberal and I decide what’s right and wrong. Not that I’m against gay marriage (I’m for it)… just saying :P

    • The Other Side says:

Don’t be offended just because some of us equate taking kids to church is the religious equivalent of Hitler Youth! Wow methinks you forgot the “I” in your tag

  13. YourMom says:

I would have said, “Well, with the way the world’s going hopefully soon.”

    • B says:

“Well, with the way the world’s going hopefully soon.”

Are you kidding? There was a time when it was socially acceptable to watch people get mauled bylions for entertainment. 1000 years ago someone living to be 40 was considered ‘old’. Only 50 years ago it was okay or at least not commonly punished in America to murder people because of their race. Only 15 years ago we were on the brink if nucklear destruction.
The only reason it ~seems~ worse now is because now we have more media coverage of everything that happens anywhere in the whole world, but the world is actually much, much better than it has been at any other point in history.

  14. Solo says:

Yay for indoctrination of small children!

  15. Bubbles says:

Ilm not religious, but that made me laugh :)

  16. Chuck says:

“What time does Jesus get here?”

If you’re at a catholic mass, about halfway through.
