    String is pretty neat. :-p

Autism is too, actually. Kudos to people who help with it.

    • Butthole Enthusiast says:

Austism is bullshit. So is Ass-burgerss. All those lazy fakers need a slap in the mouth.

      String is ok, I guess.

      • DrPluton says:

BE, you are not winning any points with that comment. One of my best friends is a high-functioning autistic. He didn’t choose to be that way, and he can’t act “normal” because his brain is the way it is.

Also, string is only good for cats and sewing.

      • Shmoopty says:

        Troll. Do not feed.

        • Kouryou says:

          Do Not Feed The Troll.
          Do Not Pet The Troll.
Do Not Get Within Thirty Meters Of The Troll.
Do Not Attempt To Be Civil With The Troll.
          Do Not Acknowledge Troll’s Existence.
          If Troll Attacks, Either:
          1) Say In A Loud Clear Voice, “PICS OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN”,
          or
          2) Play Dead And Remain Calm; Trolls Can Only See Movement; Remaining Still Will Cause You To Disappear From His Sight.

Read about Charlie. He’s a wonderful child. click on the link at my name. There is also a link to his own blog.

      • VaporTimes says:

Thank you ass0hole for clearly stating that you know jack-shit and have no life, because with out this comment how would I have know?

      • Starcat says:

Really? Are you so sure? You DO realize that many of “greatest geniuses” exhibited many or all of the classic high-functioning autistic traits? Paul Erdos couldn’t butter his own toast.

And speaking of burgers…. You DO know that most modern slaughterhouses (you know, the places where they get the meat for your fast-food hamburgers) are designed based on the work of an autistic animal sciences professor? Look up “Temple Grandin”.

      • Rena says:

Are you people really taking someone by the name “Butthole Enthusiast” seriously?

There are a number of people who claim/think they have it but don’t, and they are annoying. Then there are those who have been diagnosed with it by actual doctors.

      • HP says:

you just made my day i read out our comment to my autistic son and he says fuck off jerk wad ( his first sentance and in the correct way too )
        go suck eggs

  2. JTB says:

I’m just going to say that B-hole up there lives up to his name.
I agree with Rena. Kudos! I don’t know who (besides B-hole) gave this a thumbs down, but cut it out! This IMMD Rocks!

  3. cTo says:

Perhaps he could go on to study string theory ;D

  4. Meh heM says:

    I think BE’s a troll.

  5. Meghan says:

    Autistic kids rock.

  6. halosixx says:

Autistic kids are some of the cutest kids ever

  7. Rylie says:

    My kid’s got autistic tendencies. We have so much fun. I wish he liked string. He loves car crashes. Everything I own is getting Hotwheels dents. ^^;

  8. Brat says:

Good lord, order some yarn catalogs!

Annie’s Attic and Bernat are two that jump to mind.

    And they are FREE!

  9. Tvini says:

I’m a knitter, so I have a thought for the OP – try checking with local yarn shops to see if they have sample cards of yarns they’re not carrying anymore that they might let you have. I imagine a piece of labeled cardboard with lots of color of yarn or string attached might be a treat for this kid.

My kid has autism. Kudos to the original poster for getting so jazzed about his students’ enthusiasm. IMMD!

  10. VaporTimes says:

sorry but why would Autism link you to have an OBSESSION with some thing?

    • JTB says:

You don’t understand how autism works do you?

      • VaporTimes says:

        I’ve been diagnosed with aspergers

        • Natalia says:

          Not the same thing, idiot.

          • VaporTimes says:

            you’re an ass-hole who doesn’t understand
            it is a “spectrum illness”
so you can go fuck yourself because aspergers is a
type of autism, just like there is different levels of
            diabetes

            • Mary says:

Don’t let the comments bother you. Of course you are right. There is an obsession thing though, my brother (45 years old this year) during his childhood went from light bulbs to bridges to computer languages to antique radios. With lights and bridges he learned all the science behind them, collected examples, built models, with computer languages he leveraged his talents into friendships by helping out his classmates in college.. with the radios thing he eventually co-founded and sat on the board of an antique radio museum and made money picking up old radios and refurbing them to sell. Obsession can be a very good thing!

          • Steffie says:

It is the same thing. Autism works on a spectrum. I have mild autism myself. It does cause you to have certain obsessions, Mine are Star Trek and I also have OCD

    • Starcat says:

And obsession isn’t necessarily a BAD thing….. We prefer to think of them as “areas of intense interest”.

  11. Lolz says:

How do you know if you have autism? Just interested to know

    • Tvini says:

If you’re genuinely concerned, please see a professional for a diagnosis. Maybe you’re autistic, maybe you’re not, but don’t be one of those people who randomly announces that they have Asperger’s and uses it to excuse their behavior when what they really have is extreme jerkiness. It makes it that much harder for those with an actual medical diagnosis to be taken seriously. Best of luck in pursuing this!

    • This Guy says:

One sign of autism is the inability to read facial expressions. Doctor knows best, though. Go ask a professional.

  12. Mooshie says:

I’ve been diagnosed with Aspergers :P
    I’m obsessed with horses…
String sounds hella fun tho :)
& Working with Autistic children is very rewarding x

  13. Abby says:

Sign up for the Lion Brand Yarn catalog, along with WEBS and KnitPicks! They’re great!

  14. tequila says:

i wish my autist friend liked string…
he loves moves. he loves directing.

he can name all the actors in a movie and what movies they have also acted in. its cool, but annoying.

  15. Someatheisticguy(withautism) says:

best obsession is and always has been WoW

  16. Lys says:

Hey, kudos on good work with students with autism. Just wanted to encourage everyone to use person first language to make sure that people are defined by who they are, not by their diagnosis. Using phrases like “a class of students with autism” or “children with autism” makes sure that the focus is on the individual. :)
