That is amazing! I wish that would happen more often.
Really nice!
eh hem. I’ve done that. When I’m sitting at a stop light and the young buck next to me is blaring rap, I’ll turn up the volume on my Mozart, just to be obnoxious.
True confessions of a music nerd.
My mom used to do that with Sesame Street and VeggieTales, when me and my sisters were little, and we had those tapes in the car.
I do that with bagpipe music, the person blasting rap usually rolls up their window
Mozart? Wow that is awesome! I would have loved to see that. Way better than rap in my opinion!
I had friends who played guitar and piano to record the Snoopy theme for me REALLY LOUD. I would pull up at the stoplight next to the (b)assblasters with their rap (this was when it just first started getting popular, ugh, how I wish it had never caught on) and would pop in my Snoopy recording and crank it.
It would be funny to watch them start frowning, figuring out that what they were hearing from my car sounded familiar, but they couldn’t figure out what it was over their own noise. They’d turn down their stereo just in time to figure out what it was when the light would change and I would dash around them and go on down the street
(where I live they would drive like 12 miles an hour in a 40 zone “sharing” their music and bringing traffic to a crawl.)
Could you please direct him to Northwest Arkansas?
FIRST! Yussssssssss
Did you defecate through your eyeballs while posting that?
Dude, your post just made my day.
Mozart? That’s just awesome!
I get so sick of tooth rattling bass cranked up like the driver had a deficit of attention given to them as a child and must have the speakers so loud, that it screams “LOOK AT ME!!!” (Attention whore, much?)
Mozart. Wow. Wish you lived in Florida so I could have a little hope to encounter that at some point. Thanks for sharing. =)
Yeah, it’s pathetic. People do that around my apartment complex at around 12 am-3am with their rap and hip-hop. I wouldn’t mind hearing anything else. And I mean ANYTHING. I’d even be willing to hear country music up that loud than the kind of “music” that sounds like people talking.
We did a similar thing with a nice stereo and modern barbershop music. Pulled up right next to a “thumper” truck and let ‘er fly! Must admit, we got dirty looks!
Just goes to show that even a guy who drives a pimped-out ride can appreciate classical music.
Second!
Also, yes, this is good
When I was growing up my dad listened to classical, and cringed at cars with much base. I sent this to him today, I am sure he will apprecitate the irony as much as I did!
That’s awesome!
Def. and IMMD
this totally made my day. i want to do this too.
Maybe you shouldn’t assume that someone playing loud music with bass is rap. Racial?
It’s not racial.
It’s typical, and therefore logical to assume.
It’s common sense… Not racism.
But yeah, it’s funny!
IWMMD2
I dont think it has anything to do with race. In fact, when a car usually drives by with loud music, more than half the time its white-early-20s-baseball cap-wearing guys in tinted windows and mag wheel japanese cars.
…and it’s most certainly rap music most of the time.
I think It’s more “racial” to assume that listening to rap implies one’s race. Bigot? Hypocrite? Idiot?
All anyone can assume about a person who blasts rap with ridiculous bass is that they have shitty taste in music and will eventually go deaf.
I’m going out on a whim and saying it’s that last one.
I’m seeing a distinct pattern here, every comment you have made, has made me laugh. Preach on, you grammar Nazi you!
I like Rap, and I am a 40+ year old white woman…. So much for demographics.
I tend not to blast it though.
Your post made my day hahah
thank you emsmom! i can tolerate the noise and some of it i find catchy, but thanks for not blasting it! the ears of the world love you!
You are just looking for a reason to complain. Are you that insecure that you have to bring race into everything? Here is a tip: Only throw out the race card if you are sure it will stick. By the way, I can count on one hand the number of times the loud music was not rap.
yeah that’s not really racial. i can’t say i’ve ever heard anything but rap when i hear the bass line from a ways off. and i’ve everything from white to asian listening to rap, sooo maybe its stereotypical of the music a bit but in no way is this really racial o.o
Where was race ever implied?
It never was implied. This is just one of the examples of the modern hate monger. Keeping the racial divide wide in a failed attempt to stop racism. You see this in action from most prominent racial leaders. Always expressing their hate of racism and more often than not simply causing more racial hatred in their own group against those who they claim are racist.
Maybe you shouldn’t assume that someone playing loud rap music with bass is black. Racial?
@Tankdog
Maybe you should not write in black letters all the time. Racial?
Yup, this comment made my day
oh, please. Idiots destroying their hearing by playing loud music (usually rap) isn’t limited to black’s (is it safe to assume that with your cry of ‘eep! racial!’ thats what you meant). The assumption was that the person blaring music from their vehicle three streets over was playing rap. Thats it.
Anyway…had this guy pulled up next to me at a light I probably would have rolled down my window to listen along. Nice.
Hopefully the volume didn’t distort Mozart too much. His music is generally pretty heavenly and is not normally associated with subwoofers, but what the hey.
Score! I do the same thing with Vivaldi! You should see the reaction I get.
That dude really knows how to kick it “old school.”
What?
If 18th century classical can’t be called “old school” I don’t know what could!
lol, MMD
actually, this reminds me of what a celebrity in the r&b/hip-hop field use to do. she would have her bass turned up and her windows up, and if she’d get dirty looks at a stop light, she’d roll down her windows and sing along to the classic opera she was listening to.
We need more of that! Wouldn’t mind Crosby, Stills & Nash, either…
I DO BELIEVE WE HAVE A WINRAR
Just goes to show, ppl who litsen to mozart can be obnoctious asses “sharing” their music too…
If you’re going to insult people, the least you can do is spell it right. Otherwise you make yourself look like an idiot.
I think you mean obnoxious?
I think he also means “people”, “listen”, “Mozart” (Capitalized).
He clearly isn’t a genius.
I wish that would happen in my neighborhood.
Low riding to classical music = classy? You bet.
Every time Lux Aetana plays on my iPod, I blast it as loud as possible…I get funny looks and smiles every time. It’s refreshing to hear something OTHER than rap music blasting from 6 cars away.
That was me in the convertible, your welcome!
“your welcome” what?
Thanks. It warms my heart to know that people who know how to write still exist. (no sarcasm)
Interesting story; not sure how I feel about people blasting music of any kind but Mozart is pretty unique at least (and sometimes you just have to crank it up).
Rap is so 90′s. I blast trance.
motion is seconded, move to pass! i love me some trance
I had some dude drive through my high school parking lot up and down ALL the rows blasting this weak ass rap (Im VERY white and wear WoW shirts and even I thought it was weak) in his gay sports mini-van thing with the back open, and like 6 speakers and like 4 subwoofers blasting out of it. He totally looked like an ass-hat.
Me and my friends have something on a CD called “Big Coke”. Its about 22 seconds of pure madness on loop 9 times. We BLAST that song when we pull up to people like that with the windows down and it on max. SO funny to see their faces. The key is to head bob while doing it.
LoL! I’ve done that before. I even got my younger brother and some of his friends doing it. Hilarious!
i like to blast opera
I don’t know…. Mozart might not be the best music to use for full effect… Perhaps Beethoven or Wagner? Something with a good timpani section? Or better yet…. Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture…
I agree. Wagner would definitely be “shareable” music. If you’ve got the car/stereo for it, share the theme from “2001 Space odyssey” or some really good pipe organ music with the 32 foot pipes engaged.
It’s not the theme from 2001: Space Odyssey. It’s Richard Strauss’s tone poem “Also Sprach Zarathustra”.
A friend had a CD with the 1812 overture, with a warning that if you weren’t careful, it’d turn your woofers into confetti. So maybe not the best to crank
Heh. It almost seems worth it to go all out on a ridiculously powerful sound system just so I can drive around the city to ‘Ride of the Valyries’ all day
*Valkyries
That’s it, I’ve gotta install some kind of ghetto blaster on my (motor)bike to do this with…
only problem is its bright red rather than military chopper coloured
I like Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird Suite’ for an excellent blend of thoughtful and thunderous orchestration…
That and ‘Night on Bald Mountain’
I miss my old car…
Custom stereo…
Favorite part of the thread!
I can also confirm this is about as fun to do as it is to experience
As an alternative to classical, any goofy type music (eg the snoopy theme, or strange stuff found on the internet full of movie samples…) does well.
I always thought it’d be funny to blare the theme from Jaws while going through traffic.
That would be so funny. win!
This same thing happened to me the other day, except the guy was playing the overture to “The Flying Dutchman.” IMMD!
P.S. I have a kickass convertible with a classical music-themed personalized plate and I blast opera and gospel music through my speakers. Sharing is caring!
That comment made my day
The best one is blast at rappers/techno sharers is celine dion or Whitney Houston and you have to sing alone with it off key!
One guy in a Holden, came up to the lights with Techno music. I lent over and asked him if he had any glo sticks
First!
First at what?
I have wanted to do that for a long time! Good on you!
The only acceptable rap is nerdcore.
Please die.
omg, my dad does the same thing!! he always gets such a kick out of it
And math-rap! Watch them try to bop their heads at 7 beats a measure.
I honestly would do this with Stravinsky’s Firebird or Holst’s The Planets. Namely Mars.
Oh my goodness! That is brilliant, your comment officialy made my day! Congratulations!
I’ve always wanted to do this with some 8-bit chiptunes. Blast the Bubble Bobble theme. Muahaha.
Oh man! WIIIIIIIN!
The only thing that would top that is Liszt… I think I’m going to do that once my car radio is fixed.
NO WAIT! THUS SPAKE ZARATHUSTRA! That’s what needs to be blasted. (Double points if you can find the disco version…)
Mmm, can’t really blast Mozart. Or Haydn for that matter. They weren’t of the ilk that incorporated large brass or percussion sections. Anything from Beethoven to Wagner would get the job done, though. Maybe some Berlioz.
Of course you can blast Mozart! He really went for it in some of his choral works. Try for instance Requiem (Dies Irae) or cheat a bit and blast his rearrangement of Händel’s Messiah.
Personally, I’d go for Händel any day. Smeg, I wish I had a car now!
I usually do that but with Tchaikovsky or Drum Corps music!
this happened to me, too, in washington dc… it was a brand new convertible corvette with spinning rims and a glitter finish. the guy inside was covered in gold chains like his first name was “mr” and his last name was “T”, and he was playing the overture to wagner’s gotterdamerung.
You know, if only there were more people like that. I could really appriciate some loud Mozart while driving. Though not that loud in my own car– my chest doesn’t like loud bass that much, and sometimes even makes it hard to breathe. Nonetheless, skip the bass and play Mozart across the streets. For all that people seem the think that rap is “cool”, there is nothing that compares to the Classics. Play on. <3
fantastic!
i felt the same way once, as a car passed me by, playing led zeppelin “since i’ve been loving you” at max volume. was great!
Mozart…the most dealyiest compser next to the guy the made the 1812 overtuer, but thats cause he used cannon. imgaine mozart with cannons… the world would bow to him.
Ha, sounds like something I would do.
I’ve always wanted to do the same, either with classical, or Phantom of the Opera.
My friend blasts jazz. Especially Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis, and BB King. If you leave the bass booster off they are just as loud as Rap Blasters without the heavy distortion
I do this ..with J-pop.. XD
sounds like my ex boyfriend LOL
